Introduction

This group lives in the Vaupés Department of Colombia along the Cano Tí tributary of the middle Vaupés river and upper Pirá-Paraná and Papurí rivers, all branches of the Amazon river. There are about 600 people who speak Carapana as their first language. However, due to the norm of marrying a person from another ethnic group and other factors, there are more than a thousand indigenous people who speak Carapana well.
