Foreword

This dictionary is intended for all those who already read and write Gulmancema and who at some point will feel the need to know the orthography, the use and the meaning of a word: translators, editors, neo-literates , literacy workers, transcriptionists, researchers, agents of agriculture and other domains. The goal of the dictionary is to provide users of Gulmancema, all dialects, a clear, precise, easily accessible text, which will make an irreplaceable contribution to the standardization and fixing of the spelling of this language.

Writing a dictionary is not an easy task, as Dr Samuel Johnson: Every other author may aspire to praise; the lexicographer can only hope to escape reproach.

This dictionary has more than 22'174 Articles, more than 5'500 images, and of course indications of various semantic domains (plants, animals, parts of the body, diseases etc.) It is for the moment, a preliminary edition which is still being worked on and refined.

This dictionary is inspired by the Gulimancéma - French dictionaries published by Benoit Ouoba in 1993, and on the dictionary published by René Picavet in 1998; the French texts were translated into English by Urs Niggli.

Sometimes we were able to put dialect indications as follows:

(Ñ) word from the province of Ñaña, North Gulmu, Prefectures of Bogandé, Piéla, Mani, Koala, Liptugu, Thion

(G) word from the province of Gourma, region of Fada, Pama. Matiakoali

(Your) word from the Province of Tapoa, Diapaga, Kanchari, Botou, Tanbaga, Logobou

(To) word from Torodi region (Niger), Makalondi region

The name of the language is said and written in different ways, here are the most frequent versions: Gourmanchéma Goulmacema, Gourmantche, Gulimancema, Gulmancema, Gurma, Gourma.
