Marquita Klaver, introduction to “Sketch of Ifè Grammar”:

“Ifè is predominantly an isolating language with a strict SVO word order. Most words are one or two syllables long and consist of a single morpheme. Except for object markers, there is no inflectional morphology on verbs. There are some nouns and verbs which are compound words. Ifè has three register tones, low, mid and high. Mid tone is the default tone. Tone is carried on the syllable by vowels and syllabic nasal consonants. In the orthography, high and low tone are marked while mid tone is unmarked...”
