Introduction

The Jamaican language is spoken by about 3 million people, most of whom live in Jamaica. Other large populations of Jamaican speakers are to be found in America, Canada and the United Kingdom. So far, the data in this bilingual dictionary are taken from the Jamiekan Nyuu Testiment (JNT) and has been compiled and organised by Bertram Gayle, Co-ordinator of the Bible Society of the West Indies' Jamaican Creole Translation Project.  It is hoped that the project will expand with the assistance of other people interested in the development of the Jamaican Language - linguists and "ordinary" speakers of Jamaican.

It is hoped that the Jamaican language community will continue to develop the lexical database, to preserve this important part of their cultural heritage.
