Introduction

The Saint Lucian Creole French [acf] is spoken by about 357,153 speakers, but many (158,000) live in Saint Lucia. Alternate names include Creole, Grenadian Creole French, Lesser Antillean Creole French, Patois, or Patwa. Local speakers call it Kwéyòl.

In the French-influenced islands, nearly all speak Creole as their first language, although many speak a local variety of standard French [fra]. In areas under English influence, Creole has less standing.
