Introduction

More than 35,000 people speak Mmen as their mother tongue, a language in the North West Region of Cameroon. The language has sometimes also been referred to by the following terms: Bafmen, Bafmeng, Bafoumeng, Bafumen, or Mme. The Mmen people live northwest of the town of Fundong, in the Fungom subdivision of the Menchum division of Cameroon.

Mmen has the ISO 639-3 language code bfm and is classified as Niger-Congo, Atlantic-Congo, Volta-Congo, Benue-Congo, Bantoid, Southern, Wide Grassfields, Narrow Grassfields, Ring, Center. The dialects listed in the Ethnologue for this language are: Fungom (Northern Fungom, We), Cha’, and Nyos. People of all ages use this language and some literature has been written in Mmen.
