Foreword

 

The Rajbanshi is an important language in the home as well as in the community. It is taught in primary schools and is used in work and religious settings. Mother-tongue miltilingual education and adult literacy programs have been carried out in villages throughout the region. The Rajbanshi highly value their language, although many also speak Bengali, Hindi, Mathili, or Nepali. There is a variety of media produced in the language, including literature, newspapers, radio, videos, grammar, texts, and the New Testament. The Devanagari script has been used for writing.
