Introduction

 

The Kamta ethnic group of India also known as Rajbanshi may have over 300,000 speakers who live in India. It is called Rangpuri in Bangledesh which has around 10,000,000 speakers. The linguistic classification is Indo-European, Indo-Iranian, Indo-Aryan, Outer Languages, Eastern, Bengali-Assamese. Alternate names include: Anchalit Bangla, Bahe Bangla, Kamta, and Polia.

The specific region in India is Rajshahi division: Joypurhat area; Rangpur division: Dinajpur, Gaibanda, Lalmonihat, Nilphamari, Panchagar, Rangpur, and Thakurgaon districts.

Literature and radio programs have been developed in the language.
