Introduction

 

Bafanji is spoken by approximately 17,000 speakers in the North West region of Cameroon. The people live in Bafanji village on the Ndop plain southwest of Ndop. This area is part of the Balikumbat subdivision of the Ngo-Ketunjia division. Bafanji speakers are also found in many major towns and cities in Cameroon and especially in the cocoa farming areas of the South West region of Cameroon.

 

Other names for the language are: Bafangi, Bafanyi, Chufie’, Chuufi, Chyefie' and Nchufie.

 

The language is valued in the home and basic literacy materials in Bafanji are available in the Bafanji village. Bible portions were completed in 2016 and translation is ongoing.
