The majority of the data was collected in the villages of Limbuak Darat and Palak Darat on Banggi Island by Michael and Alanna Boutin. We lived in Limbuak Darat between November 1982 and April 1986, and in Palak Darat from November 1987 to April 1992. Michael made regular trips to Banggi Island since then, including several times a year from 1994 to 2003, and once in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2013. The data for this dictionary comes from recorded and transcribed texts, conversations, and elicited data. All the Bonggi data was collected using the Bonggi language.

Many Bonggi have helped with this project. While we we lived in Limbuak Darat from 1982–1986, our primary language consultants were Mual, Tagi, induh ny Umpil, Tereib, Liad, Sayad b. Liad, Toseh, and Darah bt. Kudasan. While we lived in Palak Darat, our primary language consultants were Timisup, Tipah bt. Timisup, Kusur bt. Dupok, and Nunga bt. Latip. From 1994 to 1999, our primary language consultants were Tipah bt. Timisup, Kusur bt. Dupok, and Mesluh b. Pulod. More recently, we have been assisted by Mesluh b. Pulod, Awing b. Pulod, Rey b. Alop, and Mudah b. Tali. Many thanks to all these people and all of our Bonggi friends.
