Introduction

 

The Iwaidja language of Australia is spoken by about 120 people in the Northern Territory: Croker Island. The language may be referred to by others as: Eiwaja, Ibadjo, Iwaidji, Iwaydja, Jiwadja, Karadjee, Limba, Yiwaidja

Iwaidja is classified as Australian, Yiwaidjan, Yiwaidjic. The ISO code is [ibd]. There is one dialect called Iwaydja. Most of the Iwaidja ethnic group also speak English as well as Gunwinggu [gup]. The speakers of a neighboring language Garig-Ilgar [ilg] speak Iwaidja as a second language.

Many of the speakers of Iwaidja would like to preserve their language.
