It would often been two dishes, one on one side holding predetermined weight that one would measure by, the other dish on the opposite side would hold the product that one would measure out for sale to a customer. DTP The word balance was also used when it comes to one's life. We are to keep all things in balance, not living or acting to one extreme to another.
