ampò v Cover or lid, as back of a kuglung instrument, or on a coffin. [ DB did not know this word. Said the older people that used it are not living. ] osyn : so-ob 1 .
ampù 1 v To pray. [ Borrowed from Ceb but widely used by Ata Manobo believers. People in mountains and in some villages still use panubad which can also mean sacrifice. ] osyn : tubad 1 ; see : pannubad (see tubad) . 2 deriv n A place for prayer as a church, tabernacle or temple.
amulu n Vine which has sap, similar to kamulu, philodendra . [ used to darken the teeth which, in the past, was considered beautiful and is still practiced in some mountain areas. ]
anga n A kind of small fish. [ similar to the ilabù or subuk which resemble a fish called bull head. ]
angat 1 n Tooth marks. [ applies to tooth marks from a snake bite, dog or pig or any other animal. ] 2 v To bite and hang on so that teeth really sink into flesh. [ If snake or animal is large enough the teeth may come through the flesh to the other side. ]
angga-an v Abandon; neglect. Og-ang-angga-an ta [ka anak ta]. We are [deliberately] abandoning [our offspring]. [ As to abandon a child i.e. in field, but also would apply to the neglect of a child by a parent who does not care for a child even though it is in the home. ]
angkal n 1 skeleton Ka angkal, tibò no mgo bokog no konò pad ogkalokò pu-un to ulu, li-og, bakalawan, lawa no du-on mgo gusuk, bubun woy pa-a mgo salowsow. As for a skeleton, it is all the bones [of the body] which are not disconnected (lit. separated) from the head, neck, upper arm(s), body which has ribs, thighs and feet [lit. foot] and toes/fingers. 2 A large skeleton ghost with deepset eyes that lives at graveside. Ko du-on ogpapitow to busow koykow no olin bokog, sikan ka angkal. If there is a ghost which shows itself to you which is all bone(s), that is the skeleton ghost.
