Foreword

In 1992 F. Kröger's Buli-English Dictionary was published (see Bibliography). The data for this was collected mainly in the period between 1970 and 1990. Several informants from various Bulsa villages, mainly Wiaga and Sandema, helped with the collection of data and with corrections. In Germany the final version was written mainly in cooperation with Mrs. Margaret Arnheim of Gbedema (who was living in Münster). My own acquisition of Buli took place in 15 stays with the Bulsa between 1973 and 2011. These stays were mainly in Wiaga where I lived in a traditional homestead starting in 1984. After 1984 I worked on expanding and correcting the printed dictionary, drawing on data from my conversations in my homestead as well as additional help from Yaw Akumasi (Wiaga) and Robert Asekabta (Sandema). During a stay in Germany, Rev. Dr. Alfred Agyenta (of Wiaga and now Bishop of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese) revised the printed dictionary thoroughly.

The vocabulary of the old dictionary was greatly expanded, while some discrepancies remained concerning the employment of tones.

This app is primarily intended for non-Bulsa with little knowledge of Buli as well as for educated Bulsa who may find it helpful for improving their oftentimes only moderate Buli and English vocabulary.
